The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
