The New Mayor Vows a 'Fresh Chapter' for NYC in First Address
On his initial day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “transform” the metropolis, declaring “a fresh chapter” and an ambitious beginning to his tenure.
An Unprecedented Mayor
The 34-year-old democratic socialist, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, has become the city's first mayor born in Africa. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
